On behalf of The Sherman Park Community Association, Inc. (SPCA), we invite you to join our upcoming Annual Meeting on Thursday, December 10th at 6:00p.m.  This year however, due to the pandemic, the meeting will be hosted virtually via the Zoom platform. Click the button to register:

It is clear, 2020 has been an historic year given the corona virus and its impact on every aspect of our lives, the resulting economic hardships, the racial and social injustice and inequity outrage and a historically divisive presidential election.  Sherman Park residents have been resilient thru it all – Covid-19 lockdowns, protests, U.S. Census counts, and the many challenges faced in the simple act of “voting”.

It has also been a busy year for SPCA, we have connected residents with legal services through Legal Action of WI; provided pathways to employment thru the U.S. Census Bureau and local businesses and hosted in-person and virtual candidates forums for the following races – 1st and 7th Aldermanic districts, Milwaukee County Executive, the Wisconsin State Senate District #6 and Wisconsin State Assembly District #17.  When the corona virus hit our community, SPCA pivoted to create a yard sign messaging campaign for how residents can stay healthy and how to get resources. We provided residents and those living in our two senior living facilities with food and PPE.   SPCA and volunteers who answered our call staffed the Mary Ryan Boys Girl Club polling site in August and again during the presidential election on November 3rd.  Finally, amidst the pandemic we administered $173,000 for home repair and rehab grants to 43 homeowners living in Sherman Park NID #4. We continue to pre-screen and process applications for the Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP). And as always, we lend support through community and economic development for potential business owners and entrepreneurs who are bringing healthy businesses to Sherman Park.

As we approach the end of a year of significant challenge and significant change, we are embarking on exciting collaborations and new initiatives.  At our 2020 Annual Meeting you can expect to get a preview of upcoming 50th anniversary celebration in 2021 and our vision going forward, join in our salute to SPCA Board members Thelma Berry and Patrice Olin, receive an update on our BUILD Health Challenge initiative, SPCA members can participate in the election of board members to two-year terms and finally hear how you can help SPCA continue to advocate for resources on behalf of the Sherman Park community.

As mentioned earlier, there will be an Annual Election of Board Members to a two-year term.  If you are interested in joining the SPCA Board of Directors, please email the Executive Director, Mabel Lamb at  MabelL@shermanpark.org no later than 5:00p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

Lastly, we invite you to become a member of SPCA by paying your annual membership dues. To participate in the board elections, one must be a member in good standing. You can pay your membership dues by check or online by credit or debit card by visiting our website.
