Election Day is almost here! On Tuesday November 5, the country will elect a new President. It has been a highly contested race. There are also many state and local elections on the ballot. Without a doubt, this is a very important election. In Sherman Park we have done our part to help get the vote out. We have knocked on doors, registered residents, made telephone calls and held numerous events.
Harvest Fest was a great family event with many families enjoying the activities. People stopped by the SPCA table for popcorn, candy apples, tee shirts and voter information. We also had Souls to the Polls ready to take people to Washington Park Library to vote. On October 29 we partnered with Working Families at Washington Park at the playground. There was music, food, games and many activities including pumpkin decoration. We took individuals to early vote and shared information about the candidates and voter information.
On November 1 we will participate with a program at Washington High School where we will be working with local historians and poets to energize students who are eligible to vote. Our effort will conclude with rides from Souls to the Polls to take those who are 18 years of age to get registered and have a chance to participate in the election process.
On election day we have hired a driver with a vehicle that has a billboard sign attached to it to roll through the Sherman Park neighborhoods to remind everyone to vote. Please listen out for the sounds in your neighborhood and if you know someone who hasn’t voted yet, please help them get to the polls. Souls to the Polls is readily available to get everyone who needs a ride to get to their polling place. Their number is listed below. We’ve also included VoteRiders who will assist with getting an identification if one is needed to vote.
Thank you to all who have helped in some way to assist with our get out the vote effort. We appreciate your time, energy and commitment to Sherman Park. Your work has made a difference! Every vote counts!
