About SPCA

The Sherman Park Community Association (SPCA) was founded in 1971 to provide leadership and advocacy in housing, health, safety and environmental justice. Today SPCA serves six neighborhoods — Sherman Park, Uptown Crossing, Saint Joseph’s, Sunset Heights, Roosevelt Grove and Grasslyn Manor — and fosters an attractive, inclusive environment where people of all races and national origins come together to celebrate cultural differences and shared values.

The Sherman Park Community Association (SPCA) is committed to helping residents maintain, improve, and invest in their homes. Through the Neighborhood Improvement District (NID) and Neighborhood Improvement Project, eligible homeowners can access grants of up to $5,000 for essential repairs and upgrades. These funds support improvements like roof repairs, energy and water efficiency upgrades, safety enhancements, and exterior updates that boost curb appeal and the overall appeal of the neighborhood.

SPCA also helps residents navigate the Targeted Investment Neighborhood (TIN) program, which provides additional support for projects such as lead paint abatement, code compliance repairs, heating and plumbing upgrades, weatherization, and electrical improvements. The support from SPCA makes it easier for homeowners to keep their properties safe, efficient, and well-maintained.

Sherman Park’s rich architectural history is reflected in its designated historic districts, where preserving neighborhood character is a priority. SPCA helps residents understand requirements like Certificates of Appropriateness while continuing its long tradition of community advocacy. We do this by supporting homeowners, addressing neighborhood concerns, and strengthening quality of life.

As a designated ECO-Neighborhood, Sherman Park is also leading the way in sustainability. Residents have access to programs focused on energy efficiency, urban gardening, waste reduction, and climate education. Initiatives like Greening Congregations and Branch Out Milwaukee bring additional benefits, including lower energy costs, expanded tree canopy, improved air quality, and new green job opportunities.

Together, these efforts are helping Sherman Park remain a vibrant, resilient, and forward-looking community.

Why We Need Your Help

SPCA’s historic headquarters has fallen into disrepair. Temporary fixes no longer hold, and heavy rains in 2025 caused severe roof damage and flooding in the basement. To continue serving our community, we must raise the roof — quite literally. Your support will help us restore this vital community hub.
