Creating a Healthy, Green Sherman Park
In 2006, Mayor Barrett, the Milwaukee Common Council, and The City of Milwaukee created the Office of Environmental Sustainability, now the Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO). ECO strives to make Milwaukee a world class eco-city. ECO collaborates with the community, offers award-winning programs, and implements the City’s Refresh Milwaukee sustainability plan.
In February 2021, Sherman Park became an “ECO-Neighborhood.” Taking inspiration from the ECO-Neighborhood Toolkit, we strive to connect residents to the city’s various environmental resources, including:
- Energy efficiency and housing rehabilitation
- Lead-safe homes and education
- Beautification projects
- Urban gardening and food security
- Litter cleanups and education on waste reduction
- Street safety
- Climate education
- Green Jobs
