SUMMARY

BUILD Sherman Park is a collaborative effort between United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County, The Milwaukee Health Department’s Office of Violence Prevention, Ascension Wisconsin, the Sherman Park Community Association, and, most importantly, the residents and stakeholders of Milwaukee’s Sherman Park neighborhood.

This place-based partnership is rooted in equity, and was created to 1) target the social determinants of health related to violence prevention, 2) increase access to and utilization of supportive community services and resources, 3) increase the community’s capacity to generate positive impacts to health and well-being, and 4) build resident leadership capacity.

The role of the BUILD Sherman Park Project Manager is to convene, facilitate, and build collective action among a set of motivated partners within this defined geography, ensuring that in the partnership achieves the defined, community-driven outcomes. A key function will be to translate strategy into effective partnerships across a variety of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will utilize strategic thinking and planning to understand the rich assets possessed and complex challenges faced by the Sherman Park community, and will make recommendations to the partnership of the most optimal course of action to achieve key outcomes for the initiative. This requires active partnership with many organizations and institutions, which is difficult to achieve without an intentionally convened collaborative environment and regular, well-facilitated meetings.  This position reports to the Vice President, Community Impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following, but are not limited to:

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

  • Convene and Facilitate the BUILD Sherman Park Community Coalition
  • (Co)convene and (co)facilitate collaborative action among place-based partners to ensure these groups succeed in their goals and measurable indicators
  • Analyze existing services and collaborative working groups to identify gaps, then work with groups to ensure collective action towards measureable goals
  • Actively recruit and align new and existing partners and resources to achieve the stated and emerging goals as articulated in the BUILD Sherman Park implementation plan
  • Ensure Collaborative Action is Aligned with both local and Citywide Violence Prevention Efforts
  • Large scale change efforts exist within a multi-tiered structure of Sherman Park’s stakeholders – residents and community leaders, health systems, community organizations, governmental partners, businesses – and it is critical that messaging, communication, and measures of progress are shared across these structures
  • Regular collaboration with partners and backbone supports across these tiers is critical for success.
  • Engage in Rigorous Continuous Improvement Processes.
  • Work with partners to quantify the intended actions, desired outcomes, and measurable indicators of success
  • Assess the current conditions, including the outcome’s trend over time and the partners that are working toward the outcome
  • Monitor interventions against outcomes and ensure the partnership modifies practices based on findings.
  • Work with partners to refine, measure, and report a set of performance measures

 COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS:

  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings of BUILD Sherman Park (BSP) Community Coalition, Resident Advisory Committee, United Way and community partners.
  • Develop strategic neighborhood outreach plans and approaches; implement innovative ways to provide information and recruit Sherman Park residents for leadership development, events and other initiatives.
  • Work to ensure that BUILD Sherman Park’s services are known, understood and accessible to residents, businesses and community based organizations.
  • Make contact with residents and disseminate program-related information by conducting outreach in the assigned neighborhoods on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop, build and maintain relationships with BUILD Sherman Park organizations and partners, as well as broad network of community residents, organizations, leaders and other stakeholders
  • Responsible for the overall day-to-day community organizing, networking and resident mobilization within assigned neighborhood sectors.
  • Work collaboratively with the District Attorney’s Office, the City of Milwaukee, law enforcement, and other community resources to provide planning, problem solving and assessment services relating to crime, violence and drive prevention efforts at the neighborhood level.
  • Build positive working relationships with the Alder people, County Supervisors, Mayor’s Office, other elected officials, CBOs, businesses, residents and staff.
  • Make presentations and represent BSP and United Way at relevant events, community forums, block watch meetings, media events and collaborative community based projects. Work to ensure that the services of BSP are known, understood and accessible to residents, businesses and community based organizations.
  • Support strategies identified by community residents while developing resident leadership capacity.
  • Serve as lead local contact and liaison for BSP team including City of Milwaukee’s Health Department, Ascension Wisconsin, Sherman Park Community Association and related partners.

ADMINISTRATION:

  • Support BUILD Sherman Park’s personnel/administrative needs including maintaining records, receipts, and other documentation of project expenses and activities.
  • Coordinate meeting activities including scheduling, sending meeting notices, set-up, preparation of materials/supplies, member contact and onboarding, basic memo writing, developing and typing agendas, facilitating committee meetings and follow-up for all BSP related committees and workgroups.
  • Set-up and maintain files in orderly manner to ensure easy retrieval and to maintain significant historical information.
  • Participate in regularly-scheduled meetings and calls with BUILD Health Challenge and related stakeholders, and attend national meetings and events to discuss BSP’s development, strategy and progress.

DATA COLLECTION, REPORTING & STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT:

  • Collect and organize information on community development, health equity and violence prevention programs and initiatives.
  • Provide project oversight for collaborate to adhere to grant reporting timelines and requirements.
  • Lead tracking and reporting of activities and finances/funding on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Manage communication data and lists using various software programs (e.g., MS Excel; Word; eCImpact).
  • Assist United Way staff in determining needs and resources through research and networking in order to assist in the development of solutions to community problems.
  • Assist with fund development, research of community resources and provide information to United Way staff and members to align strategies and actions.
  • Develop with BSP team a plan for on-going, community-driven activities within Sherman Park.
  • Participate in local and national evaluation activities of BSP.

ACTIVITY COORDINATION:

  • Prepare and coordinate regular e-communication with the collaborative and committees to ensure alignment of the collaborative.
  • Assist with the production of BUILD Sherman Park collaborative documents, publications and reports.
  • Provide ongoing training and support on administrative functions and collaborative work groups.
  • Plan and manage BUILD Sherman Park and United Way-led events such as trainings, forums, special events, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience that would lead to the supporting of an individual in a management position and coordinating a community-wide coalition.
  • Software experience with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, or other similar programs.
  • Ability to facilitate, take minutes, dictation and transcription, and communicate well on all levels.
  • Knowledge of project management and/or process improvement methods and tools.
